LUTON TOWN WFC Ladies
In October 2019, after a return to Luton Town Walking Football and reuniting with player manager Arthur Mason (1959 – 2020), I (David Brown) was greeted warmly and then asked by Arthur: “Know any ladies Dave that fancy playing, we need to get a ladies team together.”
Yep I knew some ladies! But none that I could think of that wanted to play football. “We’d have to sort something next year,” Arthur said. Of course the next year 2020, was the year when the earth stood still and became just a little less enjoyable with a virus and Arthur’s passing. So he never got to realise that aspiration.
After returning in 2021 and slowly returning to play and sport in general I voiced to the rest of the group Arthur’s desire to get a ladies team going – there was appetite for it, support or words in general that gave me the impression that it was going to happen anytime soon.
In 2022, grabbing the proverbial bull horns, I made an attempt at gathering interest for a ladies team by advertsing on social media. Prerequesites, apart from players, was a coach and or manager…. it never happened. In fact all I got was a little mis-placed aggression by one individual who was quite upset that I was advertising for a ladies team but didn’t have anythuing in situ – she’d missed the request for a coach and manager.
In 2023 my own sports and fitness coaching business was down sized allowing me more time to try and realise Arthur’s aspirations for a Luton Town Walking Football Ladies Team. I was already a Level 1 FA Caoch and had run a successful sports and fitness coaching business for a number of years so decided to run the ad again but this time booking a venue, buying some equipment thus taking the responsibility myself.
In May 2023 Luton Town Walking Football Club Ladies had arrived and we’re still going! We have an assorted bunch. Some experienced players, some who have played just for enjoyment and others who have never tried Pele’s “o jogo bonito” – the beautiful game.
Walking Football gives everyone a way to enjoy and play the game at a leisurely pace providing fun, social engagement and a pathway to fitness and health. If you fancy joining us then pop over to the LTWFC Ladies Website or complete this enquiry form and we’ll get right back to you.
